After much anticipation (and OK, a couple of years,)
we are proud to release the firstglimpse of our
documentary film, “Travels with Judy: In Search
of
Steinbeck’s America.” HUZZAH! It’s
been quite a
challenge so far, so it’s great to be able to
take a
moment and peek under the lid at what’s been
cooking.
From
September 23 – October 19, 2004,
I retraced John Steinbeck’s journey from his best-
selling book “Travels with Charley” with
my beautiful Australian shepherd, Judy, as my travel
companion.
In the arduous 10,000-mile journey we braved
mechanical failure, overcame unforeseen delays,
struggled with poor cell reception, fought the
elements, and cursed high gas prices.
Along
the way, we encountered many of the same
things that existed when Steinbeck took the trip
back in 1960. However, we also discovered many
differences in the America of today compared to the
pre-civil rights/women’s movement/Gulf War/Internet
era of Steinbeck’s time.
After
viewing the video, please take a few moments and peruse
our web page. We have a day-to-day
blog of the journey complete as it was written
(typos and all), a photogallery that is periodically
updated, and we’ve added some new pages to the
“links” section recently.
Please
drop me a line if you have any questions, comments,
or any recipes you’d like to share. We’re
always eager to hear your thoughts, and no one can
ever have too many versions of how to cook a hot
dish. Also, I love getting mail.
And
don’t forget…the accompanying narrative
non-fiction book is well underway as well. (Now that
I think about it, it’s been a rather busy past
couple of
years.)
Happy landings,
Vicki
